To celebrate our Centenary (our 100th birthday) we asked you to help us design our University of the Future, imagining what our University will look like in another 100 years’ time, in the year 2120.
Our competition was endorsed by bestselling children’s author, David Walliams and we received some truly inventive and creative entries across the key stages.
We were really inspired by all of your ideas about what our students might be studying, the inventions our scientists and engineers might be working on and what our buildings might look like!

Key Stage 1
The winner of the Key Stage 1 competition is Jack Mabbett from Pennard Primary School, who drew a picture of his University of the Future, which Jack describes as having “robots teaching students. There is a moving escalator going outside the university building so that you can sit on the roof. The roof is made of solar panels that you can sit on. The windows are made of computer screens that you can talk to.”
Jack’s picture has been included in an animated video.
Key Stage 2
It’s story time! The winner for Key Stage 2 is Amelia Johnson from Mayals Primary School. Amelia’s story focusses on a future where Swansea University has been re-built underwater, beneath a Tidal Lagoon in Swansea Bay. It's now an award-winning eco-university that generates its own energy.
We don’t want to spoil the story for you – David Walliams has narrated Amelia’s story which has been brought to life in an animation which you can watch here.
Key Stage 3
Winner
The Key Stage 3 winner is Yusef Butt, from Olchfa Comprehensive School, who has created a brilliant, animated presentation of his vision for Swansea University in another 100 years’ time which he narrates for us.
Highly Commended
The highly commended entry for this category comes from Hemachandra Kanamarlapudi, who made a fantastic animation of a flying car, which runs on solar energy and was invented by Swansea University students in the year 2120.
Hemachandra learned how to create frame-based animation at Summer of Stem TechnoCamps.
