School of Law Student Success

The first full cohort of the Trent-Swansea Dual Degree Programme have recently graduated, with five out of sixteen students graduating with First Class Honours. Two graduates who did particularly well were Alexis Rudat and Victoria Smith, who have both achieved first class honours degrees

Alexis was awarded the Oxford University Press Law Prize for Highest Achievement in her graduation ceremony for being the top performing student in the whole law cohort. Victoria also did exceptionally well, graduating in the top 10% of her year group.

The SW4NSE4 CYB3R team reached the Finals of the Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge – a competition that brings together the brightest students from across the globe to tackle a fictional cyber catastrophe

Four law students at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law have earned their place in the final; Henrietta Gilchrist, Felicity Hawkes, Zachariah Rooth and Thomas Plan.

All four students are set to take part in the Senior Mooting Final, hosted by the Supreme Court, and judged by Lord Lloyd Jones, a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

Mari was not only the youngest to make the shortlist, she is also passionate about the great outdoors and land law, which was the focus of her essay.

The UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education has published the second edition of ‘Contracting to Cheat in Higher Education: How to Address Essay Mills and Contract Cheating’.

Professor Michael Draper provided expert guidance to the QAA, with assistance from law students Lawrence Thomas and Callum Morton, who were the only student contributors to be individually acknowledged by the QAA.

The School of Law hosted a talk with Public Law Wales on becoming a Public Lawyer, with speakers from No.5 Barristers Chambers, Geldards LLP, Welsh Government, the National Assembly for Wales and Carmarthenshire County Council.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without 2nd year law student, Rodrigues Mbongompasi, who was keen to put on an event to create opportunities for his peers – well done Rodrigues!

Dr Kerr has been selected as the winner of the 2019 Research Award of the Confederation of European Probation (CEP) for her PhD research on evaluation systems for probation services.

The international law firm, Ince & Co. recently presented the Ince Prize for the highest overall mark in Swansea University’s Shipping and Trade LLM programmes to Jack Ford.

Jack was presented the award by the firm’s leading partner, Mr Peter Rogan. The prize itself consisted of a cash sum of £500 and a one-week internship in Ince’s flagship office in London.

In honour of our late colleague, Dr Theodora Nikaki, the School introduced a prize, which is awarded to the student who achieves the best results in the Charterparties: Law and Practice module.
This year's prize was presented to Ilari Joannes Keinanen, who is from Finland and is a qualified lawyer in his native country.

We’re proud of our students Tahmid & Isabel who won ‘Best Contribution by a Team of Students’ at the LawWorks Attorney General Student Pro Awards at the House of Commons!

From volunteering to giving evidence to Welsh Assembly, they’ve given over 750 hours to the Swansea Law Clinic!

Congratulations to our law student Callum Reid-Hutchings, who has been awarded the Lord Justice Holker Scholarship from Gray’s Inn in London.

This prestigious scholarship will enable Callum to pursue the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC).

We are so proud of our students Caryl and Meryl who finished in the Top 5 at the Client Interviewing National Mooting Competition. This comes after their Regional Championship win!
