About

Sir Mansel’s career spanned working at senior levels in public health, UK and Welsh government departments and agencies, the National Health Service (in general practice and consultant in rheumatology and populational health). He served as Chief Medical Officer, Medical Director and Chief Scientist at the DHSS/DWP in Whitehall for 10 years and CMO/Medical Director at the Veterans’ Agency. He returned home to Wales as Professor of Psychosocial and Disability Research at Cardiff University and first chair of the Wales Centre for Health in 2005. He was appointed as professor of Prudent Health and Wellbeing at the School of Management, Swansea University in 2015. Earlier in his career he founded Simbec Research which gained the Company of the Year award. He was made a Companion of the Bath in 2002 and was knighted in 2010 for services to health and healthcare.
