Brock University is located in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the Niagara Escarpment in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Located just 15 minutes from Niagara Falls, Toronto and the US border, there’s plenty to explore in your free time.  Brock’s campus is found in one of the warmest cities in Canada, although you can expect hot summers, winter temperatures drop as low as minus 20. Brock University fosters excellence in teaching and learning and is committed to student wellbeing and success. 

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Who can study here?

Swansea has a ‘university-wide’ partnership with this university which means that it is open to all subject areas except for American Studies, Social Policy or Law.
Spaces are not guaranteed, can be limited and all students on a semester/year abroad programme are subject to a university-wide, competitive selection process.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs September to April. 

COSTS: The average cost of living per month in Brock will vary depending on the type of accommodation and meal plan you select. Brock provide an estimate of average costs for students on their Budgeting webpage. 

VISA: You will need a Study Permit and will be required to provide financial evidence of at least CAN$20,635 (subject to change). The Study Permit application fee is approx. CAN$150. Your host university will provide you with more information about the application process. You must allow enough time to complete the study permit application and for your study permit to be processed and sent to you. The process can typically takes three months however, there can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to Canada without it.

ACCOMMODATION: On-campus accommodation offers a very typical North American experience. Off-campus housing provides opportunities to live in the local community alongside upper year students. More information on options of accommodation whilst at Brock can be found here.

HEALTH INSURANCE: You will be required to pay the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) whilst at Brock.  You have the option to opt into the BUSU Drug and Dental Plan at an additional cost. There is a medical clinic on-campus at Brock that is staffed by doctors and nurses. All students have access to this clinic as well as to the on-campus pharmacy.
