The Institute of Intercultural Management and Communication (ISIT) is a French Grande École (a prestigious higher education institution) renowned for internal communication and translation, making it a fantastic choice for Translation students to go on exchange. Located in Paris, the cosmopolitan capital of France and one of Europe’s largest cities, there is maritime climate with cool winters and warm summers due to its location in Western Europe. ISIT is an active member of a number of international networks and cultivates close relationships with major international organisations, including the UN and the European Commission. ISIT can provide students with suggestions for finding accommodation, and students benefit from free, secure and exclusive access to a student housing platform.

It will not be possible to complete a year abroad at this University if you have any assessments, such as supplementary or deferred exams, during the August assessment period at Swansea University.

Important information

ACADEMIC YEAR: Runs from September to April.

COSTS: The cost of living in Paris will vary depending on your chosen accommodation and your lifestyle. ISIT provide more information on estimated cost of living in their downloadable practical guide

VISA:  You may need to apply for a long-stay visa (more than 90 days) and you will be required to provide financial evidence as part of the application. The visa application fee is approx. 99 Euros. You will have three months after the day of your arrival in France to validate your long-stay visa, this will cost 50 Euros. Your host university will provide you with more information about the process and you can also visit the French Government webpage. You must allow enough time to complete the application and for your visa to be sent to you. There can be significant delays so please do not leave this until the last minute as you cannot travel to France without it.

ACCOMMODATION: ISIT has partnerships with student residences, particularly ECLA residence, which pre-books different types of accommodation for ISIT students. Other types of accommodation are also available including apartment-sharing, intergenerational housing and private-flat rental. It is highly recommend that students NEVER transfer any amount of money as long as they have not visited the accommodation or signed a lease contract, even for a pre-reservation!

HEALTH INSURANCE: It is important for you to be covered by health insurance for the entire duration of your stay in France. Before your arrival in France, you will be asked to subscribe to a health insurance with an organization either in your home country or in France. The public health insurance (L’Assurance Maladie) does not cover all medical expenses (particularly in the event of serious illness, hospitalisation, etc.). You will be required to take out supplementary private health insurance (assurance maladie complémentaire). After your arrival, you will also need to register with the Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie (CPAM).
