Swansea University sleep expert Mark Blagrove is heading to California for a series of events to promote his new book.
Professor Blagrove, director of Swansea University Sleep Laboratory, teamed up with artist Dr Julia Lockheart, from Swansea College of Art to write The Science of Art and Dreaming following the success of their science art collaboration DreamsID.com (Dreams Illustrated and Discussed).
The book was officially launched earlier this year at the Freud Museum in London and since then the pair have been involved in a series of events in Swansea and at this year’s Hay Festival.
Professor Blagrove said: “Following the critical and popular success of the release of our book, I am very excited about the book talks and signings in Los Angeles, Berkeley, and Oregon, and look forward to meeting people who have written to me about the book.”
He will be at the Barnes & Noble store in Farmers Market, Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 14, and then at a free signing event being held the Pegasus bookstore at Berkeley on Friday, June 16 in person, while Dr Lockheart will be joining online. Both events will be free to view on Facebook Live
Professor Blagrove will also be attending 40th annual conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams in Oregon from June 18.
The Science and Art of Dreaming examines the biological, psychological and social causes of dreaming and outlines recent advances in the study of nightmares and lucid dreaming. It also encourages sharing dreams to promote imagination, creativity, self-reflection and closeness to others. Each chapter starts with a dream narrative and accompanying painting of the dream, to highlight aspects of each chapter themes.
The authors say the book is aimed at the general public, and at students and researchers in psychology, as well as people interested in dreams or in art and surrealism.
