Dr ASHRAF FAHMY received the BEng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering, 1992, the MSc with specialisation in Flux Vector Control of Electric Machines, 1999, both from Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt, and the Ph.D. with specialisation in Neuro-Fuzzy Control of Robotic Manipulators, 2005, from Cardiff University, UK. He has over 28 years of expertise in soft computing decision-making, Data mining and Machine learning, Manufacturing systems, Robotic manipulation, Soft Robotics, Cybernetics, Control systems engineering, Electric drives, and Electrical power engineering. He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Swansea University. He is an Electrical Power and Machines control engineer by education, Robotics and control engineer by research, and a manufacturing systems consultant by UK and MENA region experience.

EG-284 Manufacturing Technology II

The course builds on information presented in Manufacturing Technology I (EG-182) by describing advanced processes for special machining and surface modification and by examining available joining techniques for assembly of components. The advantages and limitations of specific processes are outlined and procedure for optimum design and manufacture provided. Module Aims: to provide awareness and understanding of advanced manufacturing methods used for engineering materials and components.
EGA366 Kinematics and Programming for Robot

This module first introduces various application of robot technologies focusing on manufacturing, both existing and potential are examined. The core of the module lies in the studies of robot kinematics including trajectory planning and programming. As part of this, industrial standard robot models are analysed and practically experienced through simulation toolkit and commercial software.
