About
Amy is a Research Officer within the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research (CADR)/Centre for Innovative Ageing (CIA). This position followed the completion of her PhD in Gerontology & Ageing Studies, in September 2019. Her PhD explored the process of driving cessation in later life, amongst older adults and their informal support network members. Amy’s role as a Research Officer covers a number of CADR work packages, including Environments of ageing and psychosocial aspects of ageing. This involves research on older people’s mobility and transport, informal support networks, and older workers. Amy is also involved with the involvement and engagement strand of CADR.
Prior to embarking on her PhD, Amy completed her BSc in Social Policy & Criminology, and MSc in Gerontology & Ageing Studies, both at Swansea University. Alongside her studies, Amy previously worked for the Department for Work and Pensions as a State Pension Advisor, changing to a Bereavement Officer in the latter part of her employment. Amy also worked as a Research Officer for Urban Foundry, a creative regeneration organisation whilst completing her doctorate.
Amy has additionally undertaken voluntary work experience with the Royal Voluntary Service and the Stroke Association. Both positions primarily involved helping older people to improve or maintain levels of wellbeing and quality of life. More recently, Amy has undertaken more informal voluntary roles, supporting two older people within her local area who are living with dementia. Amy also worked with a number of older adults during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing help for their essential, as well as their psychosocial support needs.
