About
Research examining the nature, role and impact of culturally driven social gatherings in Kuwait on entrepreneurial activity.
Socializing and networking practices in Kuwait, known as the diwaniyas, are social gatherings in dedicated physical spaces where people gather together regularly to discuss, among others, political, business and historic issues or matters of everyday life.
Diwaniyas act as vehicles of social, cultural, and symbolic capital. This, in turn, impacts entrepreneurial thinking and increases the likelihood of entrepreneurial activities leading to economic capital.
The importance of this social infrastructure as a vehicle for propelling entrepreneurial activity is highlighted.
