About

After an award-winning career as a journalist and magazine editor, Emma Spacey was inspired to become a secondary school teacher whilst working with school outreach programmes such as Swansea University’s Reaching Wider. Emma taught in a number of Secondary schools in the Swansea area and worked extensively on STEM programmes before joining the School of Education as an ITE Lecturer (Science). She is also a module lead for the BA Education module Changing Narratives in Education: Race, Gender and Sexuality and contributes to other programmes in the Department of Education and Childhood Studies, as well as supervising dissertation candidates. She is an experienced examiner for AQA and WJEC exam boards and author of digital resources for the WJEC. Emma was awarded her doctorate in 2026 for her thesis: Career changing into teaching: using photo-elicitation to explore motivations and experiences of early-career secondary school teachers in Wales.
