Ceri is a lecturer in journalism the Department of Media, Communications, Journalism and PR. He researches in the area of political communication, with specific emphasis on minor party politics, religion and politics, contentious politics and misinformation.
He gained his PhD from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was also a Knight Foundation Research Fellow for the Centre for Communication and Civic Renewal. He is a co-author on the recently published book examining the fracturing of civil communication and civil society within the state of Wisconsin, ‘Battleground: Asymmetric communication ecologies and the erosion of civil society in Wisconsin’
Before joining Swansea, he was a Research Associate at Cardiff University on an AHRC-funded study - 'Countering disinformation: enhancing journalistic legitimacy in public service media'. This research examined the role of public service media in the UK in the current ‘infodemic’, querying their ability to function in an environment of fake news and truthiness.
Ceri has taught across a wide range of theory and practical communication courses.
His research has featured in the Washington Post, The Conversation, Salon, The New Yorker, Vox and the Washington Post Monkey Cage, and he has featured on various television and radio stations.
