Dr Tyrie is a senior lecturer in Early Childhood Studies and programme director on the MA Childhood Studies. Jacky has worked for 15 years as lecturer and researcher in higher education, with posts in Cardiff Metropolitan University and Swansea University. Dr Tyrie’s research explores early childhood from sociological and geographical perspectives and focuses on research around children’s rights and equality and children’s participation within early childhood care and education settings.
Dr Tyrie is a national leader in children’s rights and co-ordinates the Children’s Rights in Early Years Network (CREY). The CREY Network draws together, academics with policy makers, NGO’s and practitioners to share knowledge and work together. Jacky has been principal investigator on a number of funded research projects. Jacky’s current research explores the ways in which human rights are ‘lived’ in young children’s experiences and more recently the impact of COVID-19 on young children and their experiences of the pandemic. She has published articles around rights within some of the following journals The International Journal of Children’s Rights, The British Journal of Sociology and the Wales Journal of Education.
