About

Joanne holds an Honours degree in Physical Education and Educational Studies and a PhD in Developmental Sport Psychology, both from the University of Wales, Bangor and has taught in Higher Education for 20 years.

Joanne is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Fellow and British Psychological Society (BPS) Associate Fellow, a BPS Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with Health Care Professions Council Registration and holds BASES Accreditation for Research. She is Chair of the BASES Education and Teaching Special Interest Group, Behaviour Change Theme Lead for the Welsh Institute of Physical Activity, Health and Sport, a past Chair of the BPS Division of Sport and Exercise Psychology and the BPS Standing Committee for CPD and an Editorial Board Member for the International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

Research

Joanne’s research has two key themes: (1) psychosocial aspects of physical activity and exercise in middle-aged and older adults, and, (2) reversal theory interpretations of, and applications for, optimising well-being and exercise experiences.
