About

Joanne Davies is an Associate Professor and Head of Swansea Universities state of the art Simulation and Immersive Learning Centre, programmes and facilities which she was the founding Director since 2021.

A/Prof Jo has over 28 years of experience in clinical practice and educational leadership at a local, national and international level including start-up projects and simulation national collaborations and research in the UK, Middle East & North Africa (MENA), and Australia.

A/Prof Jo Davies previous projects included a $30 million- start-up of an international simulation centre as the founding Director and co-founded and chaired the Qatar Simulation Consortium with partners from Weill Cornell Medical School -Q and the University of Calgary in Qatar.

A/Prof Jo joined Swansea in 2020 as a consultant and took over as Head of Simulation in 2021 designing, commissioning and opening a £7.2 million project to enhance education through simulation and immersive learning programmes and facilities. Since joining Swansea University from 2022 to 2024 Prof Jo has also been awarded over £1.4 million of Simulation and Immersive Learning research grants.

A/Prof Jo is a huge advocate for a national approach to SBE strategy and projects and is a member of the All Wales-Immersive Learning Committee, works alongside the Asso Deans at HEIW on national projects and partners on projects such as the All-Wales Virtual Hospital programme with institutes from across Wales. A/Prof Jo has also presented to the UK government regarding her international work in SBE.

A/Prof Joanne Davies current role includes expanding the SUSIM education, research and business arms of this major project and is working with Health Boards, Sports, and Industry to achieve this expansion.
