About

Dr Kurtis Pankow joined Swansea University in 2023. He completed his BSc at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, and his MA and PhD in Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation with a focus in sport psychology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Following his PhD, Kurtis completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatry at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Kurtis’ research can be broken into to broad areas of interest. His first interest is in mental health and wellbeing, with his own work focused on understanding how university students can be supported through their sport programmes to experience better mental health outcomes. Kurtis’ second area of interest is in knowledge translation and implementation, which is concerned with how we can streamline the process of getting research into everyday practice.

In addition to his research, Kurtis is an avid (Canadian) football fan, having played and coached during his studies, and working as a sport scientist in the Canadian Football League for two seasons.
