About

Rebecca Pratchett is an Associate Professor in Digital Education in the School of Health and Social Care. With extensive experience in designing and delivering education both locally and internationally, she is the programme director for the MA Education for the Health Professions and the PGCert Education for the Health Professional Educator (International).

Originally trained in Psychology at the University of Glasgow, she moved to Swansea University to complete a PhD in Social Work & Social Care (Kinship Care). Moving into healthcare education, she holds Senior Fellowship of the HEA and UKAT Recognised Practitioner in Advising status.

She has taught in-person on four continents and is actively engaged in advancing digital and transnational education at Swansea University. Her work involves supporting healthcare educators and students through innovative curriculum design, personalised learning journeys, and evidence-based teaching practices.

SHE322 Professional Practice Development

This module will build on research understanding attained in year two and will further contextualise theoretical and practical knowledge related to the context of paramedic science. It will enable students to further develop research skills and to apply these within the context of practice. The module will enable the student to evaluate evidence based practice and look to the future as to where further research should be undertaken within a specific area of their professional practice. The module will support students to retrieve, analyse and synthesise extensive background literature (literature review) to inform their selected research question. It will also support students to present an abstract and presentation of their research proposal arising from the literature review.

SHG3056 Starting Your Professional Development

The aim of this module is to equip students with the necessary skills for work based learning, including self assessment, construction of a learning contract and compilation of a portfolio of evidence. This is the first module for students wishing to pursue the BSc or Graduate Diploma in Enhanced Professional Practice. It will introduce students to the principles of work based learning and the skills required to facilitate personal and professional development for themselves and for their colleagues.
SHGM97 Teaching and Learning in Practice

The aim of this module is to enable practitioners to develop their teaching and facilitation skills in practice using a work based approach to learning.
SHN3123 Evidence-Based Practice and Nursing Research

The module will provide students with the opportunity to develop their critical analysis skills through research enquiry. The module will introduce concepts of research, audit and service evaluation and focus on different techniques for data collection and analysis. The module will develop key skills for questioning, selecting, and evaluating information and evidence to support evidence-based practice and will enable students to examine and analyse aspects of research appropriate to their field of practice. Students will be taught using blended learning techniques. This will include lectures, small group work, seminars and online resources available on Canvas.
SHTM33 Designing and Evaluating Your Teaching

This module aims to develop the student¿s awareness of the key issues, principles and values of quality teaching in the workplace setting, and their ability to reflect upon, analyse and interpret their own professional practice in healthcare and education using a range of theoretical frameworks.

This module has been designed to prepare educators from a variety of health professions for a role in teaching, supervising and assessing students and trainees in practice and academic settings. SHTM35 Researching Educational Practice

This module aims to develop participants¿ awareness of the key issues, principles and practice of educational research and to provide the knowledge and understanding required to conduct small-scale research into their own practice.
SHTM37 Dissertation - Professional Education in Practice and/or Academic Settings

This is essentially a module of independent study for students doing the MA Education for the Health Professions. The module will enable participants to show that they can design, conduct and present a sustained conceptual exploration of a chosen study topic
SHTM42 Teaching and Learning for the Health Professions’ Educators
