About

Becky is a psychologist and an Associate Professor in the School of Health and Social care, Swansea University, UK.

Becky's research broadly falls into three areas:

1. Social relationships and health

This research brings together different perspectives and methods to explore how relationships impact on health and wellbeing. Becky’s research in this area has focused on:

  • Loneliness and social isolation how these impact health outcomes and behaviours (such as alcohol use).
  • Personal social networks and illness management across a range of chronic conditions.
  • The role of family and other important relationships (such as partner relationships) on health and wellbeing.

 2. Developing and evaluating behaviour change interventions

Becky’s work has involved the development, optimisation and evaluation of complex behavioural interventions to support self-management and wellbeing

  • These interventions have included blood pressure self-monitoring (in older adults and high-risk pregnancies), prostate cancer, genetic testing and reducing alcohol use in older adults.
  • Becky has expertise in using the Person-Based Approach (PBA) which uses mixed-methods to develop interventions which are engaging and accessible for users.

3. Hard-to-reach groups and community-based research

Becky has expertise and interest in engaging hard-to-reach or marginalised groups with research, conducting research in community settings and PPIE leadership.

Get in touch to discuss training for Expressed Emotion (EE) and social network mapping methods, using the PBA for intervention development or potential supervision opportunities.
