Dr Tim Brown works part-time in Swansea University Medical School where his main role is as the lead for year 2 GEM students. As well as this role he is involved in teaching on gastro-intestinal/surgical topics and anatomy, and in the emendation and standard setting of examinations for the students. 

Prior to this he was a Consultant in General Surgery and in Pancreatico-biliary Surgery in ABMU Health Board (now Swansea Bay Health Board) where he started the pancreatic unit, and was also involved in the start of the medical school in Swansea. During this time he taught medical students from Swansea and Cardiff Medical Schools, as well as being actively involved in teaching trainees and Consultants on a number of Royal College of Surgeons of England courses. 

His other main interest is in surgery overseas and he regularly leads ‘Hernia’ trips for conducting surgery and teaching trainees in various African countries, as part of teams linked with Operation Hernia and Hernia International. He has also been involved in surgery in Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
