Tissue Viability
This module aims to further develop the knowledge and skills of health care professionals who are involved in the care and management of patients with wounds, including pressure ulcers and leg ulcers. The module will also develop knowledge and skills to assess and prevent tissue damage, maintain skin integrity and reduce risk. As the module is composite and requires elements of practical skills to meet current need students will be required to undertake a minimum of 4 clinical days away from their practice base ideally placed with a wound care specialist or clinic relevant to their field and learning needs. The module is 13 weeks in duration, therefore will be split into 9 theory weeks and 4 clinical days.

The module will enable registered health and social care professionals to explore the complexities associated with the needs of the older person and identify strategies for promoting their health and wellbeing. It will allow the practitioner to apply their understanding of the complexities of ageing in order to make an effective contribution to the delivery of an improved service which better meets the needs of the older person.

This module will support students to gain insight into factors that can influence a person¿s health and wellbeing. This module will examine how biological, psychological and social factors contribute to patterns of health breakdown and ill health. A lifespan approach will be implemented to enable students to care for people across all four fields in their own homes, community, hospital or any healthcare setting where their needs are supported and managed.

The module aims to develop the student¿s knowledge of the empirical, ethical, personal, socio-political and aesthetic dimensions of nursing. It aims to enable the student to understand the nurse¿s role in providing safe and effective nursing care across the lifespan and all four fields of nursing, which is underpinned by professional attitudes and evidence, promoting partnership working with service users and their carers. This module will also introduce the student to learning in higher education.

The module will enable the adult field student to participate in the organisation, management and delivery of safe, quality care to patients and service users across all four fields of nursing practice in accordance with recognised legal, ethical, quality and professional frameworks for practice. Students will develop a critical understanding of the process of clinical governance and continuous quality improvement through leadership skills and apply these principles to the practice settings, using a range of communication skills, self-reflection, clinical judgment and critical evaluation of the evidence base for nursing practice.

The essentials to nursing module is the first module in the MSc Nursing (Adult) programme. This module introduces students to the core concepts and principles of nursing and supports students to develop fundamental nursing and research skills.
