Dr Zoë Clegg is a Lecturer of Education in Swansea University School of Education. Her interest lies in the area of Youth Citizenship with a particular interest in the development of the new Curriculum in Wales. Further interests include youth participation, youth voice and the use of qualitative and creative research methods, particularly in engaging young people in the research process.

DEC200 Protecting and Promoting Wellbeing in Education

This module will focus on promoting and protecting wellbeing in the context of education and early childhood settings. It will consider policy and legislation based on rights to, and within, education and early childhood settings. The increased emphasis on emotional health and wellbeing in education will be highlighted using contemporary research to critically evaluate evidence based practice. Safeguarding issues, processes and a multi-agency approach in professional practice will be explored. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own educational experiences in relation to rights, safeguarding and wellbeing.
ED-M04 Curriculum Design and Realisation

This module is designed to enable students to engage deeply with the concepts and the international research that have informed recent curriculum development in Wales. It will enable students to consider curriculum design and realisation in different contexts, including their own. The module will equip students to evaluate different curriculum design approaches and to critically appraise the various implementation processes that accompany curriculum change within education institutions and systems.
EDD801 Education for Equity

This module will introduce students to some of the current educational debates around issues of equity, and support students to approach these debates through critical analysis of a wide range of data. Issues to be covered will include the decolonisation of the curriculum, issues pertaining to equity of access to educational opportunities and outcomes, issues of equity and equality in educational research (both in relation to topics researched and in the conduct of research), issues of race, gender, social class and marginalisation in learning. Crucially, the module will encourage students to take a critical perspective on key concepts relevant to both the education policy and practice landscape in Wales and the UK more widely, including the concepts of equality of opportunity, equity and meritocracy.
EDN100 Education and Society

The module will introduce students to the contemporary range of educational issues, patterns and associated policies locally and nationally. It will describe the history and functions of compulsory education systems, and particularly explore the range of approaches utilized over the past 40 years to improve student outcomes and deal with inequalities in social class, gender and ethnicity in terms of these outcomes. An assessment will be made about why certain policy, paradigms are more effective than others, and about future likely / desired changes in educational and associated policies.

EDN313 Youth Citizenship and Education

Children and young people¿s citizenship is an important and relevant topic in education and is a central focus of the new Curriculum for Wales. This module will provide students with a framework for understanding citizenship in theory and practice, with a particular focus on Welsh education policy. It will also examine the socio-political context of young people¿s transition through (and beyond) education, exploring issues through the framework of citizenship. This module also considers the role of learning and participation in education and society more broadly. Students are asked to reflect on their own experiences of agency within educational settings and to consider what it means to `influence decision making¿, as well as the challenges and tensions that arise within this process.
EDPM21 Philosophical Debates in Education Research

The module aims to engage students in debate about the challenges facing education research today, including those pertaining to the perceived lack of quality and relevance to policy and practice. It also aims to develop students¿ knowledge and understanding of a range of philosophical assumptions and theoretical approaches to education research, including, but not limited to, structuralism, post-structuralism, social constructionism and feminism. The module will engage students in critical debate about the application of philosophical assumptions to education research and students will be encouraged to consider the merits of these approaches and assumptions for advancing understandings around key issues, debates and challenges facing contemporary education in the UK.
FY-014 Critical Reflection and Problem Solving

This module will develop students¿ academic skills by exploring a range of methods and techniques for improving motivation, planning and time management and organisational skills. By reflecting on their current practice and planning for change, students will increase their understanding and application of reflective practice to support their own personal development.
