Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?
Swansea University stood out to me for its ideal student environment, characterised by a welcoming atmosphere and abundant opportunities for personal and academic growth.

What influenced your decision to study in the UK, and specifically in Swansea?
To start with I was studying in Australia, due to COVID I had to move and make another decision. So, I transferred my studies to the UK as it was the best choice. The UK’s location and its culture attracted me the most; noting that I lived in the UK before, and I felt it would be a great choice.

How have you found the social life at Swansea University?
It’s very friendly and quiet; suitable for student life. I joined multiple societies such as the Omani Student Society, Law Society, Public Speaking Society, Palestinian Society and attended many different events. There are always things to do, and this allowed me to learn a lot and meet new people all the time.

How has your experience been adapting to the differences between your home country and the UK?
The people here in Swansea made me feel like this is home too. It is very different from back home (Oman). However, life here in Swansea made it easier especially since it’s not a big city where it is easy to meet people all the time.

What kind of support have you received from the university as an international student?
I had a huge amount of support from the international team when I first applied to Swansea University, especially from Mohammed. They helped me to get my offer and get everything organised very quickly so I could start my studies without a delay. They were very supportive considering the hard circumstances of my transfer as it was already October. Also, I had great support from the Faculty of Humanities itself, when I changed my course from Law LLB to Law with Criminology LLB; Dr Jordan Dawson was a great help.

How would you describe your experience living in Swansea? What do you like most about the city?
I love how compact Swansea is, with everything we need close by and within walking distance. The beach and the stunning landscapes surrounding the city are just incredible. The main thing is that it is a safe city!

What advice would you give to other students considering studying at Swansea University?
Enjoy every part of it! Always check for any opportunities.

Is there anything you wish you had known before coming to Swansea that would have helped you?
I think regarding my degree, I wish I knew more about the available opportunities that the Law Society offers and about the Law Clinic that we have. Also, I did not use the Employability support as much as I should on my first two years, which I wish I started earlier.
