After attending several open days and visiting the University, I knew that Swansea was the perfect choice for me. The enthusiasm of the Geography Department staff, combined with the course's flexibility and opportunities for travel, really appealed to me. I was also fortunate to gain work experience with the University's Department of Geography after winning the Morgan Academy Challenge at GwyddonLe 2019. This experience gave me a glimpse into university life and allowed me to develop valuable geographical skills.
When choosing a university, the opportunity to study through the medium of Welsh was a key factor for me. Smaller Welsh-medium classes offer significant advantages, such as closer relationships with lecturers, which make it much easier to ask questions and engage in discussions about the course content. On a social level, the smaller class sizes also make it easier to form friendships. I tend to perform better in Welsh-medium modules compared to English ones, as I grasp concepts and key terms more quickly in Welsh.
As a result of choosing to continue my studies in Welsh, I was awarded an Incentive Scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. This support will help cover the costs of fieldwork, enabling me to fully engage with my studies in the language I feel most comfortable with and reach my full potential.
