How we tested learner.swan.ac.uk

A selection of sample pages from the learner.swan.ac.uk - Admissions (Student) System were audited. The pages were selected to try and mimic a typical student's use of making an application to the university. Students are the largest user base for this system, so their user journey is critical.

The user journey covered key areas including navigation, interactions and error recovery.

Sample pages included in the manual and automated review supported by evaluation tools were as follows:

  • Login Page
  • Create an Application Page
  • Admissions Process which includes multiple pages containing form fields and file uploaders.
  • CAS Process Landing Page

The internal audit on sample pages has been subjected to the following process:

  • A manual review based on WCAG 2.2 A/AA Criteria
  • A manual Review using VoiceOver Screen reader examining areas of navigation, interaction, time limits and error recovery.

The audit process was impacted by the system being in a pre-launched phase when tested, which limited the tests that could be undertaken in the timeframe.

The audit process was conducted by our internal usability specialist, as we do not have a dedicated accessibility resource. This approach was decided upon based on the size of the website, time, resources and funding the organization had available at the time.

Our internal accessibility report is available on request.
