Taith funding is funding provided by the Welsh government to support students undertaking a year abroad, semester abroad, or summer programme.

We already have limited Taith funding for year/semester abroad students due to go abroad in 2024/25 (funding for approximately 60 students) allocated to specific countries and partner universities

Funding amounts for students through the Taith programme are set externally by the programme. The amounts are calculated based on the host country, duration of placement, and whether the student qualifies for Widening Participation (WP) status. Students will receive subsistence funding and a travel grant. The travel grant is a fixed rate based on distance travelled. Grant rates can be seen in the drop-down below.

Widening Participation (WP) eligibility criteria is as follows:

  • annual household income of £25,000 or less
  • students receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits
  • care leavers and care-experienced students
  • estranged students.
  • refugees and asylum seekers.

Students will apply to the Go Global team for Taith funding and in order to be eligible students will be required to complete the relevant paperwork.

Paid work placements and British Council Language assistantships are not normally supported with Turing funding (due to budget).
