Professional Legal Courses

The LLM Professional Legal Practice is a course for law graduates and those who hold a Graduate Diploma in Law. It is designed for those looking to prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1&2). 

Whilst the SQE is specifically aimed at those looking to qualify as solicitors in England & Wales, the course is open to anyone with an interest in developing practice-based legal knowledge and skills whilst obtaining a master’s level qualification. The SQE assessments are centrally assessed exams regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and do not form part of the course.

The LLM is a practical course which focuses on developing the knowledge and skills required to complete the SQE and for success in legal practice. The LLM is part of the Centre for Professional Legal Practice, which runs a successful work-placement scheme helping students build the experience they need to secure work in the legal sector.

Anyone starting their law degree or GDL after September 2021 will need to sit the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) in order to qualify as a solicitor. 

Those who started their GDL or law degree prior to this point can choose whether to qualify via the SQE or via the Legal Practice Course and training contract route. The LLM Law & Legal Practice is a conversion course designed for non-law graduates looking to prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1).

Whilst the SQE is specifically aimed at those looking to qualify as solicitors in England & Wales, the course is open to anyone from a non-law background with an interest in developing practice-based legal knowledge and skills whilst obtaining a master’s level qualification. The SQE assessments are centrally assessed exams regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and do not form part of the course.

The LLM can be studied on a full-time basis over eighteen months. It covers the foundations of law, core practice areas and skills required for the SQE1 assessments within a master’s level qualification that will be recognised and valued by prospective employers. The LLM is part of the Centre for Professional Legal Practice, which runs a successful work-placement scheme helping students build the experience they need to secure work in the legal sector.

The LLM in Legal Practice & Advanced Drafting combines our Legal Practice Course (LPC) with an independent learning module, to enhance your legal skills and give you a valuable master’s level qualification.  

The LLM is a course for law graduates and those who hold a Graduate Diploma in Law. It incorporates the LPC qualification, which is an essential step on the route to qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales for those who are looking to do so via a training contract. It is available to those who started a GDL or a law degree by September 2021. 

The LLM is a practical course, taught entirely by experienced solicitors and barristers, which focuses on developing the knowledge and skills required to be a successful trainee solicitor. The LLM is part of the Centre for Professional Legal Practice, which runs a successful work-placement scheme helping students build the experience they need to secure work in the legal sector.

Anyone starting their law degree or GDL after September 2021 will need to sit the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). If you fall within this category, please refer to our LLM Professional Legal Practice (law graduates) or LLM Law & Legal Practice (non-law graduates) as these courses are designed to help you prepare for the SQE.

Students who successfully complete the LLM in Legal Practice & Advanced Drafting will not need to sit the SQE provided that they qualify as solicitors by December 2032.

The Legal Practice Course (LPC) is a course for law graduates and those who hold a Graduate Diploma in Law. It is an essential step on the route to qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales for those who are looking to do so via a training contract. 

The LPC is available to students who have done the following by September 2021:

• Started or already completed their Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) or Qualifying Law Degree (QLD)
• Accepted an offer to study their GDL or QLD
• Paid a non-refundable deposit for their GDL or QLD

The LPC is a practical course, taught entirely by experienced solicitors and barristers, which focuses on developing the knowledge and skills required to be a successful trainee solicitor. The LPC is part of the Centre for Professional Legal Practice, which runs a successful work-placement scheme helping students build the experience they need to secure work in the legal sector.
