The LLM in LegalTech and Commercial Law is the most recent LLM programme under the Shipping & Trade umbrella at Swansea University.
One of the programme’s main goals, and advantages, is that it is taught from a practical perspective. With that in mind, the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law have recently linked with Kennedys IQ as a partner association.
Kennedys IQ, combines human and machine intelligence and aims to produce platforms and solutions for various industries within the commercial sector, including insurers, shippers and brokers. In addition to assisting in the delivery of the LLM programme, Kennedys IQ has also now launched a prize for the best LLM performing student on the ‘AI in Commerce and Legal Practice’ module.
The winner of the inaugural prize was Oluwakemi Lethecia Ishola. Ms Ishola, who hails from Nigeria, has worked as Legal Counsel in several law firms prior to undertaking her LLM at Swansea.
As part of the award, Ms Ishola will be offered an internship at Kennedys IQ during the summer. The prize was presented to Ms Ishola at a special reception at Kennedys’ London offices. Ms Ishola was accompanied by Professors Leloudas and Soyer, and had the opportunity to meet key members of Kennedys IQ, including Deborah Newbury (Corporate Affairs Director) and Richard West (Head of Innovation and Partner).
Speaking after the event, Professor Leloudas, Module Director of AI in Commerce and Legal Practice, said:
“We are incredibly proud of Kemi’s achievement and confident that the internships will assist her continued growth in this field.
“We are also thankful to Kennedys IQ, especially to Ms Joanna Manthorpe (Senior Corporate Affairs Lawyer); Mr Joe Cunningham (Product Manager) and Dr Harvey Maddocks (Lead Data Scientist) for supporting the journey of the IISTL in contemporary and innovative areas of law.”
