The Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL) at Swansea enjoys close relationships with organisations in the shipping and trade sectors, which often yield significant benefits for students.

Six students recently had the great fortune to be invited by Seatrade Maritime to attend their prestigious annual Salvage & Wreck Conference. The agenda focused on the market’s update for specific legal contracts (LOF, OPA-90, Revision of BIMCO Wreck removal agreements), the raising importance of ESG in the current (and future) emergency response and wreck removal operations, the risk profile related to alternative fuels and the level of preparedness, and the future of the workforce in the changing marine landscape.

“Our students cover the subjects discussed at this conference in great detail as part of their master’s degrees, but there is no substitute for learning directly from those in practice. This event was an invaluable experience for those who attended,” said Dr Kurtz-Shefford (Deputy Director of Shipping and Trade LLM Programmes), “we are really grateful to Seatrade Maritime for giving our students such a unique and prized opportunity.”
