The Student Law Society at Swansea University has been nominated in a number of categories for the LawCareers.Net Student Law Society Awards.

Those nominated for the awards represent the very best of UK student law societies, which strive for excellence in their activities, and the opportunities they offer their members.

The 2024 edition of the Student Law Society Awards received submissions from 32 student law societies, with over 18,000 votes from their members.

The categories the Swansea University Law Society has been nominated for include:

  • Best Law Society Overall
  • Best Law Society President (Mubashir Syed)
  • Best Society for Commercial Awareness

Swansea Law Society has three main aims; to build a community, provide networking opportunities, and build its members' employability. Alongside this, the Society commits to hosting a variety of regular social events, collaborating with a number of law firms, and providing support to members in pursuing a career in law.

The Society has received these recent accolades despite having a committee that is considerably smaller than most other nominees, with committee members including:

  • Mubashir Syed (President, final year LLB student)
  • Rashmika Sama (Secretary, second year LLB student)
  • Norma O’Miller (Treasurer, final year LLB student)
  • Charlotte Gordon (Social Secretary, final year LLB student)
  • Yusuf Serang (Outreach Coordinator, final year LLB student)

Speaking on his own nomination, and those received by the wider Society, Mubashir Syed, Swansea University Law Society President, had the following to say:

“Receiving recognition in the esteemed LawCareersNet Student Law Society Awards, as one of the UK’s best student law societies, validates our exponential growth in recent years. Our three nominations are a testament to the hard work of our lean but determined committee, and the reciprocated commitment and value that our members bring. Together, we have created a truly special community here in Swansea.

I am incredibly humbled and honoured to have contributed to our upwards trajectory as Law Society President for the past two years. I am greatly appreciative of the heartfelt nominations by our members, and the extensive sacrifices and efforts of my colleagues on the committee. I will continue to do my best to provide value for our truly deserving cohort.”
