Swansea University has once again been named the top university in Wales, according to The Guardian University Guide 2025.
Out of 122 institutions ranked in the guide, Swansea holds 29th place overall in the UK.
Swansea University also excelled in individual subject rankings, securing top 10 positions in nine areas:
- Health Professions – 1st
- Paramedic Science – 1st
- Sports Science – 5th
- Midwifery – 5th
- Languages & Linguistics – 5th
- Mechanical Engineering – 7th
- Mathematics – 7th
- Children’s Nursing – 8th
- Anatomy & Physiology – 9th
Additionally, eight more subjects were ranked in the top 20, and a further 13 subjects within the top 30.
The Guardian University Guide helps prospective students and their families choose where to study, evaluating factors such as teaching quality, student satisfaction, class sizes, and the percentage of graduates securing graduate-level jobs or further education within 15 months of finishing their degree.

Earlier this year, Swansea University achieved its highest-ever ranking in the QS World University Rankings 2025, climbing to 298th globally and breaking into the top 300 for the first time. Swansea was also ranked among the top 100 universities in Europe in the latest QS World University Rankings: Europe 2025.
