Swansea University has been recognised by Unifresher as the UK’s top-performing university for subject excellence – achieving more first-placed subject rankings than any other institution in the UK.

An independent alternative university league table focused on student experience and outcomes, the Unifresher 2027 rankings are student-focused, measuring the areas most closely linked to students’ day-to-day university experience and graduate outcomes.

According to Unifresher: “Swansea has achieved more number-one subject rankings than any other institution, including Oxford, Cambridge, and every Russell Group university.”

Out of 124 UK universities included in the rankings, Swansea University delivered the strongest subject-level performance nationally, recording:

  • 20 first-place subject rankings – the highest total of any UK university.
  • 36 top-five finishes – more than any other institution in the rankings.
  • 40 top-10 positions — placing Swansea second nationally on that measure
  • Ranked eighth overall.

The rankings assess 85 subjects across eight student-centred metrics: teaching quality, student satisfaction, graduate earnings, academic support, safety, sustainability, social life, and cost of living.
