About
My research and teaching expertise lie in the literature and material culture of the long nineteenth century. My work investigates the relationship between perceptual experience and nineteenth-century modernity. I conduct historicised readings of literary and visual sources in light of current debates concerning theories of affect, ontology and material agency. This work rethinks established methodologies of cultural materialism. Publications include the recent monograph, Light Touches: Cultural Practices of Illimuniation, London 1800-1900 (2017).
