Ruth is an innovation academic, supporting the R&D of multinational companies, government agencies and SMEs. Her research focuses on analytical technologies and method development for medical/chemical analysis, with her most recent work concerning environmental medicine, mass spectrometry and sample preparation technology development. She has received grant funding (UKRI, EU, industry, charities etc), supervised postgraduate research students (MRes, MPhil and PhD) and performed consultancy work in separation science and mass spectrometry.
Ruth is a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist, Fellow of The Higher Education Academy and an active member of the British Mass Spectrometry Society, American Society for Mass Spectrometry and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). She is an experienced analytical chemistry educator holding the position of an RSC qualifications assessor and has trained external parties within industry, government and academia. She supports the Analytical Methods Committee of the RSC generating training and good practice guides as a member and secretary of the Instrumental Analysis Expert Working Group (IAWEG). Ruth also supports RSC outreach as a Chemnet Ambassador promoting scientific education to A-level students.
