Professor Davies is a clinical academic medical microbiologist. She undertook her undergraduate medical school training at the University of Cambridge and her specialist training in medical microbiology at the Royal Free Hospital, London, before being awarded an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship at University College London, where she completed her PhD studies on dormancy in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
She is honorary consultant medical microbiologist at the England and Wales national Cryptosporidium Reference Unit, Public Health Wales, and has a research interest in infection with this organism. She is also Health and Care Research Wales Infection Specialty Lead and sits on the NIHR Infection National Specialty Group.
In 2020 Professor Davies was elected Vice-President for Learning for the Royal College of Pathologists.
She is a member of the UK REF2021 Equality and Diversity Advisory panel and in 2020-2021 was Deputy Chair of the BMA’s Women in Academic Medicine group.
