PM-239F
Doctor as Scholar and Scientist 1
This module provides medical students with the foundation of scientific knowledge, which is required for the practice of medicine. Based on the professional knowledge domain of the GMC¿s ¿Outcomes for Graduates (2020), this module enables students to develop their scientific knowledge within a clinical context.

Antimicrobial therapy and resistance
This module will focus on the principles of antimicrobial therapy and development of resistance. This is one of the most important issues facing modern medicine and the module will have a clinical emphasis. The module will provide an understanding of the development, mechanisms and implications of antimicrobial resistance and the principles of appropriate prescribing and antibiotic stewardship, with particular reference to current UK clinical practice. Resistance in bacteria (including mycobacteria) and viruses will be covered. Clinical Case Studies will be used to teach relevant test interpretation.

Therapi ac Ymwrthedd Gwrthficrobaidd
Bydd y modiwl hwn yn canolbwyntio ar egwyddorion therapi gwrthficrobaidd a datblygiad ymwrthedd. Dyma un o'r problemau pwysicaf sy'n wynebu meddygaeth fodern a bydd pwyslais clinigol gan y modiwl. Bydd y modiwl yn darparu dealltwriaeth o ddatblygiad, mecanweithiau a goblygiadau ymwrthedd gwrthficrobaidd ac egwyddorion rhagnodi a stiwardiaeth gwrthfiotigau priodol, gan roi sylw penodol i ymarfer clinigol cyfredol yn y DU. Bydd yn cynnwys ymwrthedd ymysg bacteria (gan gynnwys mycobacteria) a firysau. Defnyddir Astudiaethau Achos Clinigol i addysgu ffyrdd perthnasol o ddehongli profion.

Prosiect Capfaen
Nod y modiwl hwn yw rhoi cyfle i fyfyrwyr gael profiad dysgu capfaen drwy gymryd rhan yn eu prosiect eu hunain yn seiliedig ar gwestiwn ymchwil. Gall y prosiect fod mewn labordy neu heb fod yn labordy ond bydd bob amser yn cynnwys cwestiwn ymchwil sy'n deillio o'r llenyddiaeth, ac sy'n canolbwyntio ar bwnc perthnasol i wyddor feddygol. Bydd yn gofyn cwestiwn ymchwil newydd ac yn cynnwys dadansoddiad beirniadol o ganfyddiadau ymchwil. Bydd myfyrwyr yn mireinio eu sgiliau cyfathrebu llafar ac ysgrifenedig i lefel raddedig, drwy lunio cyflwyniad rhagarweiniol ar gefndir y prosiect, ynghyd â thraethawd estynedig a chyflwyniad llafar ar ganfyddiadau eu hymchwil.

Doctor as Scholar and Scientist 2
This module further develops the student's scientific knowledge, building on the foundations laid in Year 1. Based on the professional knowledge domain of the GMC's "Outcomes for Graduates (2020)" this module enables students to enhance their scientific knowledge and understanding of its importance to clinical practice within a clinical context.

PM-366
Teaching Science
This module is for students with an interest in teaching, science communication, and medicine. Students will complete an enquiry-based research project, based within the field of pedagogy or science communication, with guidance from an academic supervisor. Projects may be completed in collaboration with local schools/colleges, community groups, science outreach programmes (e.g. Oriel Science), in clinical/patient settings, or within Higher Education. Students will engage with workshops and digital resources to introduce various themes surrounding pedagogy and science communication to prepare them for their research project. Students will be required to critically analyse their research findings and produce a teaching or outreach activity/resource. Students will refine their oral and written communication skills to graduate level through an oral presentation and dissertation.

PMCM00
Clinical Infection Therapy
This module encompasses clinical microbiology and infection, as applied in a health service setting. Over one week, clinical, laboratory and public health aspects of infection will all be covered. There will be an emphasis on antimicrobial use and resistance mechanisms, and the strategies applied by health professionals to limit resistance, in terms of antimicrobial stewardship and infection control. The module is suitable for health professionals working in fields related to infection, such as antimicrobial pharmacists and infection control nurses, as well as for all students interested in this applied subject area.

PMGM15
Application of Genomics in Infectious Disease
In this module the student will learn about the genomic structure of infectious agents, implication of acquisition or loss of nucleotides, genes and plasmids on pathogenicity, sensitivity of a pathogen to drug treatment and outbreak control.
-
PMGM17
Post Graduate Taught Masters Dissertation
The module is for students to build on their previous knowledge, skills and experience by undertaking a laboratory based or suitable non-laboratory based project on a specific subject related to genomics.

PMGM24
Application of Genomics in Infectious Disease
In this module the student will learn about the genomic structure of infectious agents, implication of acquisition or loss of nucleotides, genes and plasmids on pathogenicity, sensitivity of a pathogen to drug treatment and outbreak control. Students will learn about infection as a cause of national and global morbidity and mortality, transmission of human infections: person to person, food and water-borne, sexually transmitted, vector-borne, prokaryotes, their¿genome, replication and population¿genetics, genomic characterisation of viruses:¿DNA¿and¿RNA¿genomes, single-stranded, double stranded, segmented, genomic comparisons of microbial strains in the context of outbreaks and transmissions in hospitals and the community, laboratory diagnosis, including genomic techniques and technologies, and appropriate sample type, analysis and interpretation of genomic data, and the role of bioinformatics, anti-infective drug action, mutation¿rate and drug resistance, genomic evidence of individual susceptibility to specific infection and the role of genomics in: infectious disease diagnosis, drug selection, resistance, monitoring and epidemic control. The students will also learn how to perform aspects of in-silico analyses on microbial gene sequences, in a workshop setting.
