About
Casey Hopkins is an Associate Professor (teaching focused) in the Department Computer Science. She first joined the university in 2013 as a student, obtaining an MEng in Computing in 2017. Upon graduating she undertook a role as a software developer, before later returning as an academic member of staff. Her interests lie within education and broadening participation of computing.
Her current roles include Programme Director of the Applied Software Engineering Degree Apprenticeship and Lead of the Faculty of Science and Engineering Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre. As a teaching focused academic, she is always looking for ways to enhance teaching and learning at Swansea and sharing these ideas, not only to improve the experience for students but also for staff.
Working closely with the departmental outreach team at Technocamps, she represents the business arm (Institute of Coding in Wales) and works with local industries, developing new pathways into higher education and lifelong learning. As part of this role she has led the development and delivery of several digital micro-credentials on HEFCW/MEDR and SPF funded projects since 2020 also including schools outreach.
Currently she is undertaking an Educational Doctorate part time, focusing on the relation between Computer Science and Modern Foreign Languages and exploring the potential of adopting different teaching methods to broaden participation.
