Giovanna Donzelli joined the department of Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting (MLTI) at Swansea University in 1998. She graduated summa cum laude in English, German and Italian languages and literatures from the University of Urbino, Italy (1993) and obtained her PhD in Applied Linguistics from Swansea University (2010).
Prior to her academic career, she worked in publishing and as translator and interpreter in the business and education sectors. She taught Italian as L2 to opera singers, and collaborated to a number of community and language learning projects. She is a qualified CELTA (ELT to Adults) and CELTYL (ELT to Young Leaners) graduate and currently supervises a range of school placements for MLTI students at Swansea.
Dr Donzelli convenes and teaches a range of modules in Italian language from ab-initio to advanced levels, translation and interpreting, and second language acquisition to young learners. She has an interest in vocabulary acquisition, error analysis and student feedback. She has published in the area of vocabulary acquisition in instructional settings.
