About
An applied academic, Max has co-designed and delivered two major circular innovation outreach programmes – Circular Revolution (ERDF) and Applied Research for Circular Solutions (UKSPF). Together these have reached over 1,000 people and supported 50 organisations across diverse sectors such as manufacturing, construction, automotive, biotechnology, hospitality, waste management, social enterprise and healthcare. To date, generating 28 in-depth industry-academic collaborations, resulting in 38 new or improved products, processes or services.
Originally a Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering graduate, Max read for a MSc in Process Business Management at Warwick Manufacturing Group, Warwick University where he was subsequently awarded the Chancellors International Scholarship for doctoral research on Innovation Management. During this time, he investigated the use of performance contracting mechanisms to increase market uptake of stationary hydrogen fuel cells, published internationally on the topic of servitisation, and worked with the ESRC Innovation Caucus / InnovateUK to develop a tool which allows companies to explore their potential for business model innovation. He has co-developed further applied research tools such as the Circular Innovation Fitness Test and Circular Transition Framework to help businesses embed circular principles into their strategies.
Max holds professional certifications in Lean Six-Sigma and Lifecycle Analysis methodologies and has acted as a subject specialist reviewer on the topic of servitization for three international journals in the field of Operations and Technology Management. He is also secretary to the Circular Economy Research and Innovation Group (CERIG) which connects circular economy expertise in Wales to facilitate collaboration across academia, government and industry.
