About

Marcela’s passion for Human Anatomy lasts over two decades. She has steadily advanced in the field of Anatomy, holding various academic positions at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic, from 2002 to 2015.  She has been one of the key anatomists at Swansea University Medical School since 2015 and promoted to an Associate Professor in 2021.

Marci's enthusiasm for practical 3D anatomy is palpable by the immensely popular extracurricular dissection courses she established in 2015 and run for second-year medical students twice a year.

As a devoted educator, Marci introduced and officially set up highly successful Anatomy Demonstrators role at Swansea University Medical School in 2023. This initiative has been seamlessly integrated into near-peer teaching, interprofessional events, and outreach workshops.

Beyond the established academia, she actively engages with anatomy sessions ranging from scholars to specialized Hands-on Anatomy tailored courses for healthcare professionals (Swansea City FC physiotherapists, Core Surgical Trainees, Pint of Science Festival etc.).

She is an active academic, regularly participating in workshops, meetings, and international conferences within her areas of specialization and medical education. Since 2016, she has served as a member and since 2021 as a deputy chair of the Swansea University Medical School Research Ethics Sub-Committee, and in 2019, she was appointed as a Senate Representative for Swansea University Medical School.

In 2024, Marci was appointed Honorary President of the 15th International Symposium of Clinical and Applied Anatomy (ISCAA 2024). Together with the organizing team, she led a highly successful international event in Swansea, attracting over 80 attendees from 15 countries around the world.

Marci has been nominated for several prestigious awards, including the BMA/BMJ Clinical Teacher of the Year Award in Wales (2020) and the 2022 Osmosis Raise the Line Faculty Award for her role as an inspirational educator. In 2024, she received the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award, a student-nominated honour recognizing outstanding educators at Swansea University.
