About
Dr Anthony Brennan is a postdoctoral researcher working across multiple externally funded projects within the Department of Psychology. He completed his PhD at Swansea University under the supervision of Professor Hayley Young and Emeritus Professor David Benton. He is an active member of both the SNAC and GREAT research groups. Prior to returning to academia, Anthony followed a professional career as a young person’s psychotherapist and consultative supervisor in integrative therapeutic methods. He holds particular professional interests in therapeutic approaches and health-nutrition research, which complement his work within psychological science.
Anthony’s research focuses on interoception, eating behaviour, and the psychophysiological mechanisms that contribute to aberrant or disinhibited eating across the lifespan. He has worked with a wide range of populations, including older adults and children, and has extensive experience delivering both laboratory-based and remote online research. This includes designing and implementing four blinded randomised controlled trials, as well as studies involving psychophysiology, nutrition, metabolic responses, and complex behavioural tasks. Beyond his doctoral work, Anthony has contributed to projects spanning nutrition, sleep, memory, gambling, and translational research methods, reflecting a broad interdisciplinary skillset.
Anthony is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an experienced academic mentor. He has delivered extensive public engagement activities, including contributions to science festivals. He has presented his work at international conferences and has taught widely across the university, including designing and delivering three modules for a BA (Hons) adult learner program.
