About
I am an Ecologist and Environmental Biologist, with a specific focus on community ecology and conservation, and extensive experience in teaching and working with industrial partners. I teach and research across a range of topics from terrestrial to marine ecosystems. I am particularly interested in ecosystem services and the interactions between species and their habitats, from plants and soil, to plants and pollinators. I am also interested in carbon sequestration and restoration ecology to mitigate climate change and biodiversity losses. I am involved in a number of restoration projects, both locally and globally, including restoration of Welsh Peatlands to improve carbon storage and water retention, restoration of mangroves in the Gambia to improve coastal defences, carbon storage and food security, and I am working with the National Botanic Garden of Wales on the Biophilic Wales project to improve well-being of people, wildlife and the environment, throughout Wales.
I am primarily teaching facing, leading or contributing to several modules at undergraduate and post graduate level, as well as my role as Head of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre for the Faculty of Science and Engineering, which is an inclusive community of practice that supports staff to deliver excellence in learning, teaching and assessment.
