Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?
I chose to study at Swansea University because of a number of reasons. Firstly, Swansea University was the first to offer me an admission, and they were very prompt in responding to all my emails and queries which was very professional and reassuring for applicants. Secondly, the cost of living seemed fair enough when compared to other parts of the UK when I did my research. And lastly, I had a couple of buddies who had studied at Swansea, and they all gave positive reviews about the school, and that sealed it for me.
2. How did you find the process of moving to Swansea?
Moving to Swansea was not difficult really. It was a long bus ride from London Heathrow which lasted a little close to 6 hours. We got a cab from the Swansea Bus Station which took us straight to the University accommodation which I had secured prior to my arrival.
3. What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea (the city/area)?
My first is that it is a quiet city which is not busy like London which is very important for me. The beaches and the marina are another favourite of mine as I visit often to enjoy their beauty and relax with friends and family. The city centre is also my favourite as it has all the shops that you can think of. So, I can easily shop when I get to city centre.
4. What is your favourite thing about your course?
I enjoyed the delivery of the course, and my program director made it really exciting and enjoyable. The lectures are well grounded and knowledgeable in the course, and that was a big plus for me.
5. What are you planning/hoping to do after you graduate?
I hope to get a job to gain relevant industry experience in my area of study (Health Informatics with a focus on electronic medical record systems) and be able to use the gained knowledge to improve healthcare technology in my country, UK and globally.
6. Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?
Yes, I would recommend Swansea to other students because they are prompt in answering questions about the course one seeks to apply for, and other questions in general. This I believe is a major factor that allows prospective students to make timely and informed decisions about where to study.
7. What top tips would you give to international students who are considering applying to Swansea?
My top tips:
- Start your application early.
- Plan your finances properly and give some room for unforeseen circumstances.
- Ensure that you secure an accommodation before coming to Swansea, if possible, you can start searching well ahead of time (very important for those with families).
- If you have a family, and you have not been able to secure a family accommodation, please come alone, and bring your family over when you have secured an accommodation.
Are you part of a society?
I belong to the Nigerian Student Society (NSS). It was great to have a family where you can connect with, relax with and share opportunities. Made me not miss home that much.
Are you living in halls for your first year?
I lived in Beck House initially. It was a very beautiful and memorable experience. The house was well maintained, any reported issues were promptly addressed/fixed. It was also very conducive for personal studies as it was quiet most of the time.
Are you working part-time during your degree?
I currently work in the University Library as an operation assistant. I work weekends which allows me time to focus on my studies during the week. It is a good way to gain valuable UK work experience.
