Why Swansea?
Swansea was one of my top choices in the UCAS application process because of its high-quality Mechanical Engineering department and its beautiful coastal location. When Swansea reached out to me
through Clearing and reassured me that my grades were sufficient for the course, I knew it was the right decision.
What I love about Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering at Swansea has allowed me to develop a versatile skill set, combining creativity with technical expertise. The curriculum is designed to foster both innovative thinking and
practical abilities.
Why I recommend Swansea University
The staff at Swansea University are incredibly approachable, providing excellent support and accessibility. As Co-Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Society, I was encouraged to organise events
for the community, which made me feel truly integrated into university life.
Do you participate in a Swansea University sports team/club?
Yes, I participated in events organised by Get Active, such as volleyball. These activities offered flexibility and the chance to engage in team sports, enhancing my university experience.
Are you/have you been part of a society?
As Co-Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Society, I helped build relationships within our community through socials, study sessions, industry talks, site visits, and sports events. Our society
aims to:
1. Strengthen the sense of community among mechanical engineering students.
2. Encourage interactions beyond the classroom.
3. Create a welcoming environment for female students in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Societies are a great way to interact with your fellow students.
Have you lived in halls during your studies?
Yes, I lived in student halls and formed lasting friendships, some of which continued as housemates after the first year.2
Did you apply through Clearing?
Yes, I applied through Clearing. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 affecting my grades, Swansea recognised my potential and offered me a place based on my strong performance in Maths.
Have you worked part-time during your degree?
Yes, I worked as a student ambassador and an EDI Champion. These roles provided flexible hours and a chance to earn money while fostering strong relationships with lecturers and fellow students.
This has been invaluable for collaboration and knowledge exchange within the engineering community.
Have you graduated or are you a current student?
I am graduating in December 2024.
