Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?

As the medical school at Swansea University is ranked third in the United Kingdom, I was confident that my education would be first rate. The college's proximity to a beach and other attractive natural settings is especially appealing to me as a native of a landlocked country.

How did you find the process of moving to Swansea?

It was challenging because I travelled alone, but people were so welcoming that I was able to navigate from the train station to my accommodation on campus.

What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea (the city/area)?

• The rankings and ratings, as for my course Swansea University ranks the 3rd best medical school in the UK
• The friendly people, I have met amazing people on campus, at work and even on the bus!
• The nature and beach

What is your favourite thing about your course?

I feel myself tremendously lucky to attend Swansea University for my medical studies. I find it intellectually stimulating, which is something I appreciate. The spiral curriculum is the primary teaching method, which I find intriguing because we repeat old concepts and expand on them, making it an exciting approach to learn.

What are you planning/hoping to do after you graduate?

Be a fantastic physician; at the moment, I'm particularly interested in academic research, though I haven't decided which subfield to focus on.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?

Absolutely, I've met friends that will last a lifetime here; everyone is very encouraging.

What top tips would you give to international students who are considering applying to Swansea?

Socialize, participate in society, and sport events, as well as the university's GO events; you are far more likely to meet people who share your interests, and I cannot emphasise how important having a good network of friends is, especially when you are so far away from home. Try new things, food, activities; I got two belts in karate after joining in my first year. Most importantly have fun!

Do you participate in a Swansea University sports team/club?

There are so many societies to join and something for everyone. I joined Karate – in first year, achieved two belts, was the club publicist, competed at BUCS, enjoyed making posters, Instagram content and the club TikTok

Are you part of a society?

GP Society – first year rep, it has been great being part of the team, attending socials where you can meet other students a year or two above

Are you living in halls for your first year?

I lived in halls on Singleton campus in my first year and it was the best decision I made, it made freshers week fun and the whole convenience of living on campus while learning the city was the best thing for me coming from Botswana, so close to lectures

Are you working part-time during your degree?

I do work part time, however it is only limited to 20 hours but not so often because of balancing school, committee commitments and other hobbies

Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?

Student support have responded to my queries regarding enrolment and any official documents I have requested. They have also provided support when I had COVID and stayed in touch until I was well enough to attend in person.
