Materials Science and Engineering
You can study for a 3-year BEng with or without a year in industry or a year abroad. You don’t need to make your mind up until year 2 and we can also help you find summer placements with industry partners.
The modules cover the main engineering materials and applies knowledge learned in lectures through practical lab classes and real-life examples. In the first year, students can take optional maths or chemistry to support any gaps in knowledge and bring everyone up to the same level.
Selection of Modules
Polymers | Order and Disorder in Materials |
Ceramic Materials | Electronic Materials |
Engineering Analysis | Microstructure evolution and control of metallic materials |
Manufacturing Technology | Fatigue and Fracture |
Engineering for People | Materials for Energy |
Computational Materials | Composites |
Propulsion | Lots of lab classes to apply all these |
Typically, you will spend about 18 hours a week in lectures. You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who will guide you through your studies and provide general support while you are with us.
Being not well known, Materials is taught in class sizes of less than 40, meaning a close and supportive community where you will get to know your class mates and academics. This has helped us achieve number 1 in the national student survey (NSS) and fantastic employment rates of over 95%.
