- Description
The part-time Healthcare Science degree programme in Rehabilitation Engineering has been developed to address a national training need for current employees in Clinical Engineering departments, in Health Boards in Wales. Staff who have completed level 4 training (i.e. an Apprenticeship in Healthcare Science) but have limited options to develop skills without leaving employment to study full-time, now have a route to training that would make them eligible for registration as a Rehabilitation Engineer (as a Healthcare Science Practitioner, through the Academy of Healthcare Science, , subject to programme accreditation). Recognition of Prior Learning will also be available for those Health Board employees who may not have the level 4 qualifications but can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and clinical skills through a portfolio of evidence.
Students will be released from their NHS employment for 1.5 days a week to study the course, with one day a week spent with the University and an additional half-day as study time. Delivery of the programme will be predominantly remote, with a focus on practical training when students are on campus. The programme will be fully-funded by the NHS and will take 3 years to complete.
