Course Overview
The Certificate of Higher Education in Basic Audiological Practice programme is an 18-month part-time modular course, aimed at individuals currently employed within the NHS as an Assistant or Associate Audiologist who are nominated by their Head of Service.
Throughout the course you will gain the knowledge and understanding required to practice at Associate/Assistant level in a hospital Audiology Department, supporting quantitative assessment and management of patients with hearing-related problems.
You will learn how to assess hearing capacity and the clinical nature of the course will provide the practical skills needed for employment in the profession. The work involves treating, monitoring and preventing disorders of the auditory system. A large part of this involves the assessment of hearing capacity of adult patients re-accessing the audiology service, followed by rehabilitation of impairment. This is largely achieved by fitting, verification and adjustment of hearing aids and then training patients on how to use the hearing aids effectively.
