Information for International Applicants to Pharmacy
Entry Requirements
We accept A-levels, International Baccalaureate (IB) and other equivalent qualifications. All applications for our MPharm Pharmacy degree will be considered on their own merit and suitable eligible applicants will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre in person or remotely for interview and selection.
Full entry requirements can be found on the MPharm Pharmacy course page.
About our Assessment Centre
Although we warmly welcome you to attend in person, as you will have opportunities to tour our facilities, the local area and meet our staff and current students, we do understand that this may be difficult if you are based overseas. You can rest assured that if you decide to undertake your interview remotely then you will be given equal consideration to those who attend the interview in person.
This programme is competitive and the evaluation of your full application profile, encompassing work experience, personal statement, references, and academic qualifications, will play a crucial role in determining your progression through the selection process.
Assessment Centre Format
A member of our Pharmacy academic staff will first give an introductory presentation about our course and the format of the interview day. You will then have the opportunity to ask any questions that you have and also view our facilities on a tour led by students or staff.
Following the introductory talk you will attend the formal interview which is broken down into two stages:
1. Multiple-mini interview (MMI)
The MMI section will involve you spending 5 minutes at four different “stations” based around diverse themes. These may include: patient ethical dilemmas, calculations, the profession of pharmacy and problem-solving abilities.
The outcomes from the MMI stations will allow us to assess key competencies such as:
- problem-solving
- numeracy
- oral communication
- sociability
2. Group Task
The second stage of the interview is a separate group exercise in which team working skills will be evaluated.
This process will also allow us to observe a range of the personal quality attributes expected of a pharmacy professional. We have an expectation that candidates are polite, considerate, trustworthy, honest, empathetic, compassionate and respectful.
Accepting your Offer
Successful candidates will be required to pay a £4000 deposit within 10 days of accepting any offer of a place, which will be deducted from the first fee instalment.
International Tuition Fees for 2023 are set at £20,600 and will increase by 3% for each subsequent year of study.
Upon receipt of the deposit, Swansea University will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) within 10 working days. You will need your CAS number to secure a Visa, which can take approximately 1 month.
*Please note: We may ask you for evidence to prove that you are overseas before we issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) Statement to you.
Student Route / Tier 4 Visa
You must be able to prove to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) that you have enough money to pay your tuition fees and living costs during your studies.
For courses of 9 months or more you will be required to show £9,207 plus course fees for the first year. Proof must be in the form of bank statements covering a consecutive 28 day period.
If you are an international student and have completed a previous course at Bachelor degree level or above in the UK and are intending to obtain further Tier 4 leave, please provide us with a detailed personal statement demonstrating how this course benefits your career aspirations in combination with the previous course for which you had Tier 4 leave.
Advice and support for International Students can be obtained from International@CampusLife.
They are the University's support network for International Students and applicants. Please find below a brief outline of Tier 4 processes and regulations more detailed information and support will need to be obtained through International@CampusLife.
Enrolment and Fees
The course starts in line with the normal Swansea University calendar.
In order to enrol on the MPharm degree, you will need to pay the first instalment of the fees (50% of Year one fee minus £4000 deposit)
The second instalment is due in the February
Students benefit greatly from wide and varied pharmacy placement experiences, as such placements may take place across the region. Transport between sites is typically at the expense of the student. Please contact the Medical School Student Information and Education Office for further information.
