Quarter Finalist and Best Opening Statement by a Mediator

In March 2026, Swansea University Law School, for the third year in a row, entered a team in the Calcutta Mediation Competition- an event that draws teams from around the world to compete in the skills of mediation and negotiation. Being remote it also allows student to compete without having to travel which allows them the best opportunities to develop their skills.

This year Jack Harvard-Griffiths and Ems Parsons were selected from our internal process to be the negotiating pair while Lewis Green was selected to be the mediator representative. All three had the chance to compete in the Preliminary Rounds and the teams demonstrated exceptional skills. When the scores were calculated, Lewis successfully progressed to the quarter finals where he showcased his abilities still further.

Despite narrowly missing out on a semi-final slot, he was delighted to receive an individual award for Best Opening Statement. As one of the most important tools in a mediator’s armoury he was grateful for his skills in this department being particularly recognised from a large field of competitors.
