As well as providing cutting-edge legal education, the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL) at Swansea University is committed to supporting the development of law students’ legal skills, relating to commercial and maritime law, in both Swansea and a variety of areas across the world.
To this end, the IISTL partnered with National Law University Odisha (India), Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, Informa Law, and the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution, to run the 9th International Maritime Moot on 24th-27th March 2022.
Open to all law school students in India, the event was held virtually due to the ongoing global pandemic, but still attracted a record number of teams. The winner of the moot was the School of Excellence in Law (Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University) who edged out a formidable team of students from Gujarat National Law University.
IISTL’s contribution to the event was immense. A team of experts (Professors Simon Baughen and Andrew Tettenborn and Associate Professor George Leloudas) prepared the moot question and judged the skeletons submitted.
Professors Baughen and Tettenborn were also involved in the judging of the final together with Mr Aritave Majumdar (Bose & Mitra & Co) and Mr Ian Teo (Helmsman LLC Advocates and Solicitors, Singapore).
