The Institute of International Shipping and trade Law’s aim is not only to provide a contemporary legal education for its postgraduate students but to also offer them valuable networking opportunities within the sectors most relevant to them, post-graduation. To this end, the IISTL took its LegalTech and Commercial Law LLM students to London for a networking and education trip.
The day began with a visit to the illustrious Supreme Court where students were able to tour the various court rooms learn about its history. The next stop was a visit to Kennedys IQ (the London office being located in the iconic Walkie-Talkie building).
Kennedys IQ, combining human and machine intelligence, aims to produce platforms and solutions for various industries within the commercial sector, including insurers, shippers and brokers.
Students were given a presentation of how AI solutions are utilised in a commercial legal context and how Kennedys IQ operates in practice by a panel of three; Ms Joanna Mantrope (Senior Corporate Affairs Lawyer); Mr Joe Cunningham (Product Manager, Kennedys IQ) and Dr Harvew Maddocks (Lead Data Scientist, Kennedys IQ).
LLM students were provided with an opportunity to ask questions and had the chance to talk to various members of the Kennedys IQ team afterwards. Kennedys IQ is a partner of the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law, and this summer will offer an internship to one of IISTL’s LLM Legal Tech and Commercial Law students. The LLM students not only found the trip extremely useful, indicating that it provided them with valuable networking opportunities, it also allowed them an unique insight into how the things they’ve learned are actually put into action in the commercial world.
